Jim has a business degree from Indiana University (IU) and engineered all technology solutions in a K-12 school district for six years prior to creating Five-Star in 2005. It is his sincere passion for making a difference that has guided the success of the company around K-12 education.

What is one device you could not live without?
Cell phone, I had to do without for two days and it felt like two years!
What is your all time favorite book?
Good to Great - Five-Star is built around solid leadership, discipline, simplicity, and I would argue transparency.
What is your proudest professional moment since you came to work at Five-Star?
Too many to list! I am most proud of our team, their commitment to quality, and ability to create unique solutions for real world problems!

While not only assisting various public, private, and charter school districts in Indiana with their technology initiatives and goals, D.J. is also tasked with leading our technology managed services team and overseeing company operations to make sure Five-Star is truly five star.

What are your professional passions?

What do you do when you're not working?
Sitting in a lawn chair next to the soccer pitch watching my two sons play soccer or running them to/from practice.
What is one thing most people would not know about you?
I once worked in the field of EMS as a certified emergency medical technician.

Jason is a husband, father, life-long learner, and aspiring Jedi. He spends his time developing and implementing plans and training to inspire students and teachers towards awesome learning experiences. Jason recently completed his Ed.D from Ball State University.

I had Mr. Shaw in high school, and he gave me the freedom to learn in a way that worked for me.

Sam is a former high school chemistry, physics, middle school science, and distance learning teacher with a passion for software development. Sam has two Master's degrees - one in education and another in information technology. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife Sarah and their Springer Spaniels. He is an avid mountain biker and loves to tinker with technology.

I want to change the way teaching and learning happens in the digital age.

Mrs. Fox. She always had a smile and made me laugh. I learned how to type in her class, which was a truly valuable skill.

What is one device you can not live without?
The “Cloud.” I know that’s not a device, but if I had a pane of glass that could get me to Google Apps, I would still be happy.

The people. Having such a smart, talented, passionate team helps me feel supported, appreciated, and challenged to perform at my best.

Sherry is a Teacher-Librarian, Technology Integrator, Tech Coach, international speaker, collaborator, social media lover, reader, & tech addict with twenty years of experience in education K-12. She is active in the ISTE-Lib Network leadership & is a 2015 Library Journal Mover and Shaker.

What is something most people would not know about you?
I collect Lego mini-figs and am a huge Doctor Who fan. (10th is my Doctor!)

What do you do when you’re not at work?
Third generation farmers, my husband and I run a flock of 600 sheep, grain farm, and keep three border collies very busy!

Mr. Jones (SR. English) He replaced the classics with books such as Financial Peace (Ramsey). He made learning relevant!

Having a district express gratitude for the impact I've made in their teacher and student learning!

Keshia is a proud graduate of Indiana University and is a licensed social studies teacher, building-level administrator, and superintendent.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Fritz showed me that social studies is NOT BORING. He made learning come alive for me and inspired me to be a teacher.
What do you do when you're not at work?
My time is spent hanging out with my kids (Emma & Matthan) ​&​ working on my dissertation.

I work at Five-Star because I am passionate about creating awesome learning experiences for kids and I have a chance to make a difference!

Mrs. Funkhouser. I had her for Word Power and English & she rerrified me in both. Her expectations were high and she demanded excellence.

April Harper

April is a wife, mom, and former English teacher before moving into educational leadership. April is a proud graduate of Indiana University, holds an administration license, and is currently finishing up a superintendents license and Ed.D in Educational Leadership.

What is something most people would not know about you?
I have traveled to over 15 countries, including a 100-day voyage around the globe on a ship where I stopped in 10 countries along the way.
